Parentification happens when a child takes on the role of emotional supporter, partner, or caretaker for a parent. Out of love and loyalty, the child becomes “the strong one,” often the one who holds the family together.
Parentification often comes from a deep loyalty to the parents replacing a child’s natural need for safety, connection, and belonging. Instead of receiving support, the child learns to give it.
In Family Constellations we see again and again how parentification creates invisible burdens that follow us into adulthood as exhaustion, over-responsibility, difficulty receiving, relationship struggles, or a feeling that life is simply “too heavy.”
In this online workshop we will explore:
• The family dynamics that lead to parentification
• How to restore healthy balance and boundaries
• Returning emotional weight to its rightful place
• Reconnecting with a sense of belonging without the burden of being responsible
This workshop provides a compassionate space for the parentified child to step out of their role and reclaim their rightful place as a child within the family.
This workshop will be recorded.
