About Family Constellations
Family Constellations is a therapeutic approach designed to uncover and resolve hidden patterns and emotional entanglements passed down through generations. These unconscious dynamics, often rooted in unresolved trauma, loss, or broken family bonds, can profoundly affect your relationships, health, career, and sense of self
At its core, this method is based on the idea that unresolved trauma, entanglements, or imbalances in a family, sometimes going back generations, can unconsciously influence present-day emotions, behaviors, and experiences. These influences can manifest as: chronic emotional or physical issues, repeating life patterns, relationship struggles, a sense of being stuck, or disconnected.
Family Constellation Therapy helps uncover how entanglements with suffering that actually belong to family members or ancestors. It is a therapeutic process in which hidden dynamics can be revealed and repaired, freeing you to form healthier connections with the people in your life.
Family Constellation Sessions & Workshops
How does a Family Constellation session work?
In a typical session of Family Constellations:
We explore how unresolved events, such as grief, abandonment, abuse, or shame, may have created disruptions in your family's natural order. When these events are ignored or forgotten, children and descendants can become unconsciously "entangled," taking on burdens that don't belong to them.
Each session reveals these hidden dynamics and offers a path toward resolution. Through this process, we may also discover inner strengths and ancestral resources that support your healing and personal growth.
In group sessions, clients select other participants to represent members of their family system. Without prior knowledge, these representatives often experience thoughts, emotions, physical sensations, or insights that reflect the person they are representing's experiences. It's a profound and usually healing process, not just for the person receiving the constellation, but for everyone involved.
For private sessions, floor markers and visualizations are used. These visual cues make them just as effective and accessible as group sessions.
The Role of the "Knowing Field"
One of the most unique aspects of Family Constellations is its connection to the "knowing field," a powerful, intuitive energy field that holds memories, emotions, and unresolved pain within a family lineage. This field helps participants gain insight into experiences they may know little or nothing about, often providing a deeper truth than what family stories alone can offer.
What kind of issues can Family Constellations address?
Family Constellations can support healing in a wide range of personal challenges, including:
Generational trauma
Physical symptoms without a clear cause
Addiction, anxiety, and depression
Family conflict and sibling issues
Adoption, abandonment, and estrangement
Money, career, and success blocks
Chronic illness and autoimmune disorders
Unresolved grief and trauma
Difficulties in romantic or parental relationships
Repeating patterns (e.g., failed relationships, financial problems)
Feeling disconnected or unfulfilled
Narcissistic or emotionally unavailable family members
What to expect in a session
Here's a typical flow (which may vary depending on whether it's group or individual):
Introduction & Intention-Setting: You identify what you wish to explore (pattern, relationship, health issue, etc.).
Setup of the Constellation: In a group, you select representatives; in individual work, Barry helps you place floor markers and use visualizations that represent family members and dynamics.
Observation & Movement: Barry invites the representatives (or markers) to "move" or speak according to what is felt intuitively. Hidden loyalties, burdens, or exclusions become visible.
Resolution & Integration: A new "ordering" of the system is proposed, often involving "healing sentences," acknowledgments, or ritual gestures. This creates space for release and re-connection.
Aftercare: Insights may continue to ripen in the days/weeks following the session. Integration into daily life and follow-up practices are encouraged.
Why choose Family Constellation Therapy?
Because talk therapy sometimes addresses the surface of issues, while Family Constellations aims to illuminate the roots beneath, the unseen connections and loyalties that influence your life.
Because you want a shift that feels systemic, not just personal, and you're open to a more experiential process.
Because you’re ready to invite your ancestors, your lineage, and your future self into the healing process.
Because you intuitively sense that "it's not just me," that you're part of something larger (a family, a system, a soul-stream), and you want that alignment to feel conscious.
Is Family Constellations right for you?
Do you have patterns that you can't seem to break (in relationships, health, career) despite your best efforts?
Are you open to exploring your lineage — ancestry, inherited dynamics, and deeper sense of belonging?
Are you willing to engage in experiential work (moving, sensing, representing) rather than only talk or reflection?
Do you have the emotional support and willingness to follow through with integration after the session?
If you answered yes, Family Constellations can be a powerful next step in your healing journey.
